Things you need to know about Open Mic Night

First and foremost, good luck , have a great time, because your life will never quite the same again. But before you actually get up on stage here are a few important things to remember
- When you book your spot please note it in your diary. We will text you a few days before the show to remind you that you have put your name down. If you have changed your mind (and people often do) please let us know as early as possible so we can slot someone else into your spot.
- When you are performing make sure you arrive AT LEAST 30 MINUTES BEFORE SHOW TIME. and check in at the front desk so they can advise the MC that you have arrived.
- Doors open at 7.30 pm show time is 8.30 pm. There are limited places in the line up so don't arrive late, because you may find that your spot has been taken by someone else.
- If you have friends coming to watch you perform it is important to understand that they often become more anxious than the person who is about to get up on stage so please be responsible and try to remember that you are not the only person who is about to perform and respect that everyone else may be just as nervous as you are, so keep you and your friends calm.
- It is better to have 3 minutes of good comedy than 10 minutes of CRAP. So keep your routine tight and aim for no more than 5 minutes. Dont run overtime. Learn to respect the performer who is following you.
- Try not to get into offensive and dark material. Violence against children, rape or domestic violence and really bad language is NEVER FUNNY. Professionals will always avoid really sensitive racist or sexist material and so should you. If you are not sure about some of your material ask the MC. Remember an audience will often laugh with embarrassment when taboo subjects are mentioned. Dont ever mistake this for funny comedy. A good comedian will always adapts his or her material to suit their audience.
- We are interested in presenting funny shows, not offensive ones so be responsible.
- The Comedy Cellar reserves the right to refuse entry to any performer who arrives intoxicated or under the influence of drugs. The Comedy Cellar also reserves the right to bump any performer who's material is deemed to be too offensive.
