About the course:

This course is your starting point, it is an introduction to comedy By the end of the course, you will be ready to perform a 3 minute routine. Courses are held twice a year, in March and August.

Note: Applicant will be chosen on their potential. All applicants must 18 years and over. Not all applicants will be chosen and there are limited spaces available.

It is a 10 week course held on Tuesday nights at Comix Comedy Cellars.

The course is all about finding that funny part of you and discovering why you want to be funny.

Course Outline

Session 1:

• Breaking the ice
• Dave shows you how it's done
• Introduction to the course
• Are you the clown or the shy kid?
• Finding the comedian in you.

Session 2:

• A short explanation of comedy
• What can make us laugh?
• Identify you style
• What are your favourite comedy pieces?
• What is stand up comedy?
• Start building your routine
• Fire your creativity (with Guest Speaker T.B.A.)

Session 3:

• Script writing. Creative speech writing.
• Comedy tools, how to use them.
• Creating characters

Session 4:

• Radio comedy
• Presenting for radio. (Guest Speaker T.B.A.)
• How to achieve comedy for radio
• Editing your script - making it funny

Session 5:

• Stage technique - feeling comfortable.
• Microphone technique and stance

Session 6:

• The importance of party tricks
• Analyse why we do them
• Doing your party tricks on stage.

Session 7:

• Achieving your goal of doing comedy.
• Motivation. Confidence on stage.

Session 8:

• How to pursue a career in comedy
• Getting started; the comedy circuit
• Finding an agent, marketing yourself
• Interstate Comedy Clubs

Session 9:

• Dress rehearsal for next week

Session 10:

• Graduation at Comix Comedy Cellars.
• Invite your family and friends to your first stand up night
• Have a video taped.
